śrīmatē rāmānujāya namaḥ

 

īśāvāsyōpaniṣat

śāntipāṭhaḥ

ōm pūrṇamadaḥ pūrṇamidaṃ pūrṇatpūrṇamudacyatē | pūrṇasya pūrṇamādāya pūrṇamēvāvaśiṣyatē ||

ō śāntiḥ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ ||

śuklayajurvēdīyānāṃ ēṣa śāntipāṭhamantraḥ | parabrahmaṇaḥ samagrasvarūpasyabhāvapratipādaka iti yathāsiddhānta vipulaviśadaṃ vivaraṇaṃ arhati. tathā hi-pūrī-āpyāyanē ityasmāt caurādikatvēnasvārthaṇijantāt dhātōḥ ktapratyayē sati “yā dānta-śānta-pūrṇa-dasta-spaṣṭa-channa-jñaptāḥ” iti (7-2-27) pāṇinisūtrēṇa pūrṇaśabdōäyaṃ nipātyatē | iḍāgamābhāva:  nipātasya phalam | ṇilōpa:, rāt paratvāt pratyayatakārasya natvaṃ, tasya ṇatvaṃ cēti pūrṇaśabdasiddhai prakriyā | ktapratyayaśca iha kartari karmaṇi yēti ubhayathāpi bhāvyam | tatra kartari • brahama svarūpēṇa pūrayativyāpnōti ityarthaḥ| karmaṇi tu – brahama kalyāṇaguṇaiḥ saṃbhṛtamityarthaḥ | asaṃkucitavṛttinānēna pūrṇaśabdēna sarvatra sarvadā sarvathā ca pūrṇatvaṃ brahmaṇaḥ pratipādyatē ||

(1) tat yathā – sarvatrēti sarvadēśavyāptivivakṣā . sarvatra pūrṇatā nāma-sarvavyāptasya tatdēśāvacchēdēnāpi parisamāpyavṛttitvaparyavasānam | tadvā katham? na hi ēkatra pūrṇatayā sthitasya anyatra vṛttisambhava: | iti śaṃkā nirasyatē siddhāntibhi:  viśiṣṭādvaitibhi vyaktiṣu parisamāptāmapi vyāpinī tārkikāṇāṃ jātiṃ nidarśayadabhiriti bhāvyam ||

(2) sarvadā – iti kālānavacchēdēna vyāptivivakṣā |

(3) sarvathā • iti vyāptiprakāravivakṣā ca | tatra svarūpataḥ guṇataścēti vyāptiprakāradvaividhyam | tēna dīpādutpannapradīpanyāyēna parasvarūpavat uttarēṣāṃ vyūha-vibhava-antaryāmi-arcāvatārāṇāmapi guṇaiḥ pūrṇatāsiddhi:| ētadabhiprāyēṇaiva mantrapadāni vyākhyēyāni ||- tathā hi – “pūrṇamadaḥ pūrṇamidaṃ” iti “pūrṇamidaṃ pūrṇamadaḥ” iti ca pāṭhabhēdō dṛśyatē | tatra viprakṛṣṭavācinā adaḥ śabdēna nityavibhūtivartiparasvarūpagrahaṇam | sannihitavācinā idaṃ | śabdēna ca hṛdayaguhāvarti-antaryāmirūpaṃ vivakṣitam | pūrṇaśabdaḥ guṇapauṣkalyavacanaḥ | tathāca • paravāāsudēvamūrtiriva antaryāmisvarūpaṃ ca vāṅguṇyapuṣkalamiti prathamavākyārthaḥ. atha, pūrṇāt – pūrvōktaparavāsadēvasakāśāt āvirbhūtaṃ pūrṇaṃ • vyūhasvarūpaṃ udacyatē – bahuprakāraṃ bhavati . saṃkarṣaṇa-pradyumnāniruddharūpēṇa dvi-dvi-guṇāviṣkaraṇaśāli sat triprakāraṃ bhavatīti bhāvaḥ. tatra vyūhatrayē prativyakti guṇadvayamātrāviṣkaraṇēäpi svatō guṇaṣaṭkapūrṇamēvēti na nyūnatā bhāvayā . idaṃ cōkataṃ pāṃcarātrānusārataḥ śrīvatsacinhagurubhiḥ varadarājastavē • guṇaiṣṣaḍbhistyētai: prathamataramūrtistava babhau . tataḥ tisra: tēṣāṃ triyuga. yugalairhi tribhiḥ abhuḥ” ityādinā ||

pūrṇasya pūrṇaṃ – iha ṣaṣṭhayantapūrṇaśabdaḥ sarvāvatārakandabhūtaṃ kṣīrābdhiśāyi vyūharūpaṃ vadati . tatsambandhi pūrṇaṃ rāmakṛṣṇādivibhavāvatārajātam . tat (dvitīyāntam ) ādāya -svahētutvēna svīkṛtya • pūrṇaṃ ēva avaśiṣyatē – arcāvatārūpamēva caramatayā vartatē sarvasamāśrayaṇōpayōgi nityasannihitaṃ kalyāṇaguṇapūrṇaṃ ca . iti mantrasya . padārthavivaraṇam . ētēna parabrahmaṇaḥ sarvavyāptiḥ sarvatra guṇapauṣkalyaṃ ca pratipāditaṃ bhavati . adhyayanārambhē ēvaṃvidhaparipūrṇabrahmasvarupadhyānaṃ śāntimantrēṇānēna vidhitsitamiti bōdhyam . śrīvacanabhūmaṇasya arumpadākhyē  draviḍabhāṣāmayaṭippaṇē samaṃjasamidaṃ vivaraṇaṃ dṛśyam ||

yadyapi śrīraṃgarāmānujamunīndrai: bṛhadāraṇyakē (7-1) ayaṃmantra prakaraṇātpraṇavastutiparatayāvyākhyāta:. tadēvam “pūrṇamadaḥ pūrṇamidaṃ”  ityanēna parōkṣapratyakṣasarvalōkānāṃ vēdaśabdaprabhavatyāt  tadvyāptatvaṃ prōcya, (kāraṇēna . kāryasya vyāptatvāt • kāraṇībhūtavēdaśabdavyāptatā lōkānāṃ – iti . ēvaṃ pūrṇāt  ( vyāptāt  lōkāt  . pūrṇaṃ pūraṇakartṛ vyāhṛtirūpabhūrbhuvarādiśabdajātam udaṃcyatē – utkṛṣṭaṃ bhavatīti ca vyākhyāya, pūrṇasya pūrṇaṃ – vyāptalōkasya pūrakaṃ vyāhṛtirupaśabdajātam ādāya – upasaṃhūtya, pūrṇaṃ – tasyāpi vyāpakaṃ auṃkāṃra rūpaṃ vastu avaśiṣyatē – kāryasarvaśabdajātē naṣṭēäpi pariśiṣyatē” iti, vivaraṇaṃ kṛtam . atha tairēva antē . idaṃ ca rucyutpādanāya praṇavastutimātram.anyayānimittakāraṇasyavyāhṛtyādē:  kāryavyāpakatvāsaṃbhavāt. upādānabhūtasya bhūtapaṃcakasyaiva  vyāpakatvasabhavāt asāmaṃjasya syāt” iti samāpitam . tathāpi ēvaṃ svēnaiva rucyutpādanāya praṇavastutiparatvōktayā avāstavamēvēdapraṇavastutiparatvamiti vyaṃjanāt,  yuktaṃ praṇavapratipādyasya brahmaṇaēva paratvādipaṃcakaparatayā vyākhyānamiti pratīmaḥ . vastutaḥ idaṃ śrīraṃgarāmānujīyaṃ vivaraṇaṃ vākyānvayādhikaraṇagata śrutaprakāśikāvacanaviruddhamapi. tatra hi vyāsāryai: yādavaprakāśapakṣanirāsasandarbha paramātmaparatayaiva mantrōäyaṃ vivṛta:. tatrēyaṃ tadīyasūktiḥ •”, paramātmana: pūrṇatvaṃ ca aṇumātraiäpi vastuni sthitasya niravadhikaṣāḍguṇya viśiṣṭatayā  pratipattiyōgyatyam” iti ..

viśva vyāpyaṃ dhāryaṃ yēna, vicitrāśca śaktayō yasya |

śrīraṃgēśaṃ tamṛṇiṃ tanuvākcittairupāsmahē puruṣam ||1||

sarvēśānassarvabhūtāntarātmā dōṣānarhassarvavidyaikavēdyaḥ |

karmārādhyaḥsādhyabhaktyēkalabhyaḥ śrīmānvyaktō vājināṃ saṃhitāntē || 2||

pratijñā

yasyācāryai: kṛtaṃ bhāṣyam gambhīraṃ viduṣāṃ mudē |

bālāmōdāya tadabhāvaḥ yathābhāṣyaṃ prakāśyatē || 3||

īśāvāsyānuvākōya vājināṃ saṃhitāntagaḥ |

śiṣyāya guruṇā yasmin brahmavidyōpadiśyatē || 4 ||

karmaṇāṃ  saṃhitōktānāṃ  viniyōgapṛthaktvataḥ |

vidyāṃgatāsti tadvayaktyai nibandhōsya tadantataḥ || 5 ||

īśāvāsyamidaṃ sarvaṃ yatkiṃñca jagatyāṃ jagat‌ .

tēna tyaktēna bhuñjīyā mā gṛdhaḥ kasyasviddhanam‌ .. 1 ..

“īśāvāsyamidaṃ sarvam” ityēṣōnuvākaḥ, aṣṭādaśamantrātmakaḥ | ētē ca mantrāḥ puruṣasūktōdita- paramapuruṣa- tatsvarūpa- tapāsana- prapadana- tatprāptirūpa-tatvōpāyapuruṣāthānāṃ saṃgrahēṇa samyakpratipādakatvāt karmasu kalpasūtrakṛtā kātyāyanēna viniyuktatvāccaṃ upaniṣatsārabhūtāḥ. bhagavadgītādibhiśca ētēṣāṃ mantrāṇāṃ upabṛhmaṇaṃ tatra tatra parastāt pradarśayiṣyatē ||

ētadupaniṣadaḥ saṃhitāntapāṭhōpapattiḥ

nanvēvaṃ bṛhmakāṇḍē bṛhadāraṇyaka ēvaiṣāṃ pāṭhaḥ syāt | na saṃhitāyām, prayōjanābhāvāt iti cēnna, ētēṣu sārabhūtānāṃ :paṃcamantrāṇāṃ bṛhadāraṇyakēäpi pāṭhadarśanāt | “tamētaṃ vēdānuvacanēna brāhmaṇā vividiṣanti yajñēna dānēna tapasāänāśakēna” (bṛ.u. 6-4-22) vidyāṃ cāvidyāṃ ca yastadvēdōbhayaṃ saha | avidyayā mṛtyuṃ tīrtvā vidyayāmṛtamaśnutē || (ī.u.11) iti avidyākhyasya karmaviśēṣasya brahmavidyāyāṃ viniyuktatvēna saṃhitāyāmudāhṛtaṃ karmajātaṃ vidyāyā apyaṃgam iti viśadīkaraṇārtham ēṣāṃ saṃhitāntapāṭhōpapattēśca | ataḥ karmasu “viniyuktatvāt “pūrvōktatattvōpāyaprayōjanapratipādanaparatvācca upaniṣada ēvaitē mantrāḥ iti siddham||

avatārikā

tatra tāvadācāryaḥ prathamaṃ rajastamaḥ pracuradēhēndriyādiviśiṣṭatvāt  īśvarōhaämahaṃ  bhōgī (bha.gī.) ityādiśrībhagavadagītōktaprakriyayā “svatantrōhaṃ, dēvatāntaraparatantrōäham” iti ca bhrāmyataḥ tattvabubhutsayā ca upasannasya śiṣyasya  svatantrātma bhramādinivṛtyarthaṃ cidacidātmakasya kṛtsnasya prapaṃcasya paramapuruṣāyattasvarūpasthitipravṛttitvaṃ upadiśati – īśāvāsyamiti ||

īśvarapāratantraya nirūpaṇam

idam – acintyavividhavicitraracanatayā brahamādistambaparyantakṣētrajñamiśratayā ca pratyakṣādipramāṇasiddhamityarthaḥ . sarvam – īśvaravyatiriktaṃ bhōgyabhōktṛrūpam sarvam . “īśā” iti tṛtīyaikavacanāntam, sarvaniyantrā ityarthaḥ ; saṃkōcē mānābhāvāt . mahāpuruṣēṇēti yāvat, “yōäsāvasau puruṣaḥ” iti anuvadiṣyamāṇatvāt . sa ēva hi sarvasyēṣṭē . tathā ca śrutyantaraṃ “patiṃ viśvasyātmēśvaram” iti . tēna vāsyam – nivāsanīyam vyāpyamiti bhāvaḥ, ananyādhāratvāt parasya brahmaṇaḥ . yadvā sarvādhārē syasminnēva svēna vasanīyaṃ, pratiṣṭhāpanīyamityarthaḥ . smaryatē hi

“sarvatrāsau samastaṃ ca vasatyatrēti vai yataḥ |

tatassa vāsudēvēti vidvadbhi: paripaṭhyatē” iti || (vi.pu.1.2)

jagatyāṃ – urvyām, idaṃ lōkāntarāṇāmapyupalakṣaṇam . jagat – anyathātvaṃ gacchat . tatra acidaṃśasya bhōgyatvāya svarūpavikārarūpamanyathātyaṃ, cidaṃśasya bhōktṛtvāya jñānasaṃkōcavikāsādilakṣaṇasvabhāvavikārēṇa anyathātyamiti bhēdōänusandhēyaḥ . īśēnāvyāptaṃ kiṃcidapi nāstīti darśayituṃ yatkiṃcēti jagat viśēṣyatē. jagatyādiṣu lōkēṣu yatkiṃca bhōktṛbhōgyarūpaṃ jagadvartatē , tadidaṃ sarva īśā vāsudēvēna, vāsyaṃ-vyāpyaṃ dhāryaṃ cētyarthaḥ||

“indriyāṇi manō buddhissatvaṃ tējō balaṃ dhṛtiḥ . vāsudēvātmakānyāhuḥ kṣētraṃ kṣētrajñamēva ca” || (vi.sa.phalaśrutiḥ) ityādyupabṛhmaṇasahasramihānusandhēyam. ‘pṛthagātmānaṃ prēritāraṃ ca matyā (śvē.u.1.6) “jñājñau dvāyajāyīśanīśau” (śvē.u.1.9) īśānīśāyityarthaḥ . “nityō nityānāṃ cētanaścētānāmēkō bahūnāṃ yō vidadhāti kāmān” (ka.u.5-13) ityādiṣu prasiddhaḥ jīvēśvarayōḥ īśēśitavyādi-lakṣaṇayōḥ atyantabhēdōäpyatra siddhaḥ. nanu “rūḍhiryōgamapaharati” iti nyāyādīśōätra rudssyāt | maivaṃ, “ēkō havai nārāyaṇa āsīnna brahmā nēśānō nēmē dyāvāpṛthivī na nakṣatrāṇi nāgnirna sūryō na candramāḥ sa ēkākī na ramēta” (mahō.1.1) ityādiṣu “anapahata-pāpmāhamasmi nāmāni mē dhēhi” (śatapatha.) ityādiṣu ca bhagavatkāryatvēna karmavaśyatvēna ca sampratipannē rudrē, sarvavyācapitvasarvādhāratvādēḥ anvayāsambhavēna viruddhārthaviṣayatayaiva iha rūḍhēḥ bhagnatyāt . ēvaṃ ca jagatkāraṇavādivākyagatākāśaprāṇādiśabdanyāyēna “ajassarvēśvarassiddha:” (vi.sa.11) ityanavacchinnaiśvaryatayāprasidadhēsarvēśvarēyaugikaēvāyam “īṭ” śabdaḥ pratyētavya iti siddham |

vairāgyavṛttē: upadēśa:

ēvaṃ mumukṣōḥ īśvarapāratatryabōdhamutpādya vairāgyabhūṣitāṃ vṛttimupadiśati . tēna tyaktēna bhuṃjīthāḥ iti – tēna jagatā bhōgyatābhramaviṣayēṇēti bhāvaḥ . tyaktēna alpāsthiratya-duḥkhamūlatva-duḥkhamiśratva-du:khōdarkatya-dēhātmābhimānamūlatva-svābhāvika brahmānubhavaviruddhatvarūpā yē viṣayadōṣāssapta, tannirūpaṇapūrvakaṃ parityaktēna upalakṣitassanbhuṃjīthāḥ-bhagavadupāsanōpayuktadēhasya dhāraṇamātraupayikamannapānādika yāga-dāna-hōmārcanādyupayōgiparijanaparicchadādikaṃ ca bhōgyavargaṃ bhuṃjīthā ityarthaḥ .

yadvā dōṣasaptakanirūpaṇāt tyaktēna bhōgyābhāsēnōpalakṣitassan  bhuṃjīthā sarvāvāsatvēna prakaraṇē prāptaṃ uktadōṣapratibhaṭaṃ niratiśayabhōgyaṃ vakṣyamāṇōpāya mukhēna bhuṃjīthāḥ “iti yōjyam” |

atra ca ‘bhōktā bhōgyaṃ prēritāraṃ ca matvā (śvē.u.1.12) “dvā suparṇā sayujā sakhāyā samānaṃ vṛkṣaṃ pariṣasvajātē tayōranyaḥ pippalaṃ svādvattyanaśnannanyō abhicākaśīti (śvē.u.4.6) “samānē vṛkṣē puruṣō nimagnaḥ anīśayā śōcati muhyamānaḥ . juṣṭaṃ yadā paśyatyanyamīśamasya mahimānamiti “vītaśōkaḥ” (śvē.u.4.7) . mahimānam iti – prāpnōtītyarthaḥ . chāndasā guṇābhāva: . tadēti pratinirdēśōädhyāhāryaḥ . yadāänyamīśanam  asya mahimānaṃ ca paśyati, tadā vītaśōkō bhavati ityanyayō vā..

māgṛdhaḥ kasyasviddhanaṃ – kasyasvit kasyāpi bandhōrabandhōryā dhanaṃ mā gṛdhaḥ . māäbhikāṃkṣīḥ . “gṛdhu abhikāṃkṣāyām (pā.dhā. pā.1247) iti dhātuḥ |

āha ca yamaḥ kiṃkaraṃ prati .

“harati paradhanaṃ nihanti jantūnvadati tathāänṛtaniṣṭhurāṇi yaśca .

na sahati parasampadaṃ vinindāṃ kaluṣamatiḥ kurutē satāmasādhuḥ..

paramasuhṛdi bāndhavē kalatrē sutatanayāpitṛmātṛbhṛtyavargē .

śaṭhamatirupayāti yōärthatṛṣṇāṃ puruṣapaśurna sa vāsudēvabhaktaḥ’ (vi.pu.3.7.2-3) iti .

bhagavadgītāsu ca “na kāṃkṣē vijayaṃ kṛṣṇa” (bha.gī.1.32) ityādi . idaṃca dhanāśāprahāṇaṃ paramātmavyatiriktakṛtsnaviṣayavairāgyōpalakṣaṇam . smaranti hi -paramātmani yō raktō viraktōäparamātmani (nā. pa. u. 3-18) iti|

kurvannēvēha karmāṇi   jijīviṣēcchataṃ samāḥ .

ēvaṃ tvayi nānyathētōästi na karma lipyatē narē ..2 ..

avatārikā

ēvaṃ viraktasya viduṣaḥ phalasaṃgakartṛtvādityāgayuktō brahmavidyāṃgabhūtaḥ karma yōgō yāvajjīvam anuṣṭhēya ityāha – kurvannēvēti |

śataṃ  samāḥ – śatasaṃvatsarān, prāyikavādōäyam . karmāṇi – nityanaimittikāni kurvannēva, iha lōkē, jijīviṣēt – jīvitumicchēt . brahmavidōäpi yāvadvidyāpūrti jīvitumicchā bhavatīti prāptatvāt śatasaṃkhyākān vatsarān jīvannityanūdya karmāṇi kurvītaivēti vidhissaṃkāmayitavyaḥ .+yāvajjñānayōgādhikāraṃ karmayōgaḥ kartavya iti bhāvaḥ .

karmayōgaśabdārthaḥ

karmayōgō nāma ‘daivamēvāparē yajñam (bha.gī.4-25) ityādinā vikalpavihitēṣu karmayōgāvāntarabhēdēṣyēkaṃ yathāruci aṃgitayā svīkṛtya anyāni nityanaimittikāni tadaṃgatayōpasaṃhṛtya asaṃgakarmānuṣṭhānaviśēṣaḥ . na kadācidapi vidyāṃgakarma parityajēt iti ēvakārābhiprāyaḥ. vrutvayi – īśvaraparatantrātmasvarūpatayā tadājñāparipālanarūpakarmānuṣṭhānē adhikārapūrtimatīti bhāvaḥ . ēvam – ēvamēva anuṣṭhēyāni karmāṇi ityarthaḥ ..

uktamarthaṃ vyatirēkēṇa sthirīkarōti – nānyathētōästi iti . itaḥ – anuṣṭhānāt, anyathā – prakārāntaram, a(na)nuṣṭhānaṃ nāsti ityarthaḥ .

nanu brahmavidōäpi karmānuṣṭhānāvaśyaṃbhāvē bandhassyāt ityatrāha – na karma lipyatē narē – iti . vidyāviruddhēṣu karmaphalēṣu, na ramata iti – naraḥ . prastutē brahmavidi narē vidyāṃgatayā kriyamāṇaḥ karmayōgaḥ, na lipyatē – na svargādihēturbhavati, api tu jñānayōgadvārā vā, sākṣādvā, prathamaṃ pariśuddhajīvātmaviṣayakayōgamutpādya, paścāt | bhaktiyōgāṃgabhūtaṃ pratyagātmasākṣātkāramēva utpādayati iti bhāvaḥ ..

kurvannēvēti vidhēḥ avidvanmātraviṣayakatvanirāsaḥ

yattu – “kurvannēvēha karmāṇi” ityarthaṃ  vidhiḥ avidvadviṣaya ēva – na brahmavidviṣaya iti, tasya vidhiniṣēdhaśāstravaśyatvābhāvāt brahmajñānāgninā karmādhikāraḥ praṇaṣṭa iti śāṃkaraṃ vyākhyānam – tatprakaraṇaviruddham,

“vidyāṃ cāvidyāṃ ca yastadvēdōbhayaṃ saha . avidyayā mṛtyuṃ tīrtvā vidyayāämṛtamaśnutē”| ( ī. u. 11) ityuparitanavidhyantaraviruddhaṃ ca iti, na vēdavidō bahumanyantē ||

asuryā nāma tē lōkā andhēna tamasāäävṛtāḥ .

tāṃstē prētyābhigacchanti yē kē cātmahanō janāḥ .. 3 ..

ēvaṃ mantradvayēna tattvatrayasyarūpaṃ vidyāṃgakarmānuṣṭhānasyarūpaṃ ca yathāvat upadiṣṭam . idānīṃ yē kēcana āsuraprakṛtayaḥ yathōpadēśaṃ tattvatrayam aviditvā anyathā jānanti, kāmakrōdhalōbhādyanvitāḥ santaḥ śāstravidhim utsṛjya yajñādikarma kurvanti, niṣiddhāni ca ācaranti, tē sarvē syātmaghātinaḥ . tēṣāṃ nirayapātaḥ avaśyambhāvītyupadiśati ācāryaḥ – asuryāḥ iti .

asurāṇāṃ syabhūtā asuryāḥ, asurasyabhāvabhūtā vā, āsuraprakṛtīnāmēva anubhāvyāḥ, anyēṣāṃ daivaprakṛtīnām anubhavitum aśakyāḥ ityarthaḥ . atibhīṣaṇā iti yāvat . nāma iti prasiddhau . atibhīṣaṇāḥ narakasaṃjñitāḥ tē lōkāḥ santīti sarvaśāstraprasiddham iti bhāvaḥ . punastān viśinaṣṭi andhēna tamasāäävṛtā iti andhēna – atigāḍhēna, tamasā – andhakārēṇa āvṛtāḥ – vyāptāḥ tān- atibhīṣaṇān  ālōkaprasaṃgarahitāṃśca lōkān iti bhāvaḥ . yē kē ca – dēvajātīyāḥ manuṣyajātīya vā, tatrāpi brāhmaṇā yā kṣatriyādayō vā, ātmahanaḥ – “asannēva sa bhavati asadbrahmēti vēda cēt” (tai.ā.30) ityāmnātām asatkalpatāṃ svātmānaṃ nayantaḥ brahmajñānahīnāḥ kāmyakarmādiniṣṭhāḥ ityarthaḥ. tathā ca bṛhadāraṇyakē –

“anandā nāma tē lōkā andhēna tamasāäävṛtāḥ ..

tāṃstē  prētyābhigacchanti avidvāṃsōäbudhō janāḥ”|| iti ..(bṛ.u.6-4-11)

dēhapātamukhēna pātakavargasya ca upalakṣaṇamidam . pātakinaśca yē janāḥ – janimantaḥ – saṃsaranta ityarthaḥ . syātmaghātinastē sarvē prētya tadātanadēhādutkramya abhigacchanti abhitō gacchanti, sarvān pṛthivyantarikṣasvargarauravādisaṃjñitānapi nārakalōkānnirantaraṃ gacchanti ityarthaḥ..

anējadēkaṃ manasō javīyō nainaddēvā āpnuvanpūrvamarṣat .

taddhāvatōänyānatyēti tiṣṭhattasminnapō mātariśvā dadhāti .. 4 ..

bhagavatō vicitraśaktiyōgaḥ

ēvaṃ tṛtīyēna mantrēṇa vidyāyāṃ śīghrapravṛttisiddhyartham aviduṣāmanartha uktaḥ atha ācāryaḥ sarvāvāsatvēna prastutasya parasya brahmaṇaḥ anantavicitraśaktiyōgaṃ viruddhayadabhilāpēna vyaṃjayan upadiśati – anējadēkam iti.

anējat – “ējaṛ kampanē” (pā.dhā.234) akampamānam, ēkam – pradhānatamaṃ, śāstra, viduṣāṃ svānadhīnasvasamānādhikadvitīyarahitamiti vā, “na tatsamaścābhyadhikaraśca dṛśyatē” (śvē.u.6-8) iti śrutēḥ . paramasāmyamāpannā api muktāḥ brahmādhīnā ēvēti bhāva: . manasō javīyaḥ – vēgavatō manasōäpi javīyaḥ vaigavattaram, prakṛttyatikāntamapi . dēśaṃ kṣaṇamātrāt manassaṃkalpēna gacchati cēt tataḥ pūrvamēva tatra gacchatīti bhāvaḥ .. niṣkampaṃ yēgavattaraṃ cēti virōdhapratītiḥ, parihārasta.- vibhutvāt vastutōänējat, tata . ēva manasōäpyagōcaradēśē sarvadaiva vṛttēḥ manasō javīya ityupacaryata iti .

kiṃca – dēvāḥ – brahmarudrādayōäpi, pūrvamarṣat – prāgēva sarvān dēvānprāpnuyadityarthaḥ . ēnat – prastutaṃ sarvāvāsyaṃ paraṃ brahma, nāpnuvan – ētāvantaṃ kālaṃ na lēbhirē iti bhāvaḥ .. pūrvamēva prāptaṃ na lēbhirē iti virōdhabhānaṃ, vibhutayā prāptamapi karmasaṃkucitajñānāḥ caitrajñā:. ācāryōpadēśādvinā syabudayā nāpnuvan iti parihāraḥ . yathōktaṃ chāndōgyē – tadyathā.

hiraṇyanidhiṃ nihitamakṣētrajñāḥ uparyupari saṃcarantō na vindēyuḥ ēvamēvēmāḥ sarvāḥ prajāḥ aharahargacchantyaḥ ētaṃ brahmalōkaṃ na vindantyanṛtēna hi pratyūḍhāḥ’ (chāṃ.u.8-3-2) | iti . api ca – taddhāvatōänyānatyēti tiṣṭhat – “yaḥ pṛthivyāṃ tiṣṭhan” (bṛ.u.5-7-7) “ya ātmani tiṣṭhan” (bṛ.u.mā.pā.3-7-30) “yassarvēṣu bhūtēṣu tiṣṭhan” (bṛ.u.5-7-19) ityādikramēṇa sarvatra tiṣṭhadēva, tat – brahma, dhāvatōänyān “garuḍādīnapi” atyēti . tiṣṭhataḥ puruṣasya dhāvadatikramaṇaṃ na ghaṭatē iti . virōdhapratibhānam, javinō yāvadyāvadbhāvanti tāvatastāvataḥ parastādapi vartatē iti . tātparyāt avirōdhaḥ . yathōcyatē –

“varṣāyutaśatairvāpi pakṣirāḍiva sampatan .

naivāntaṃ kāraṇasyēyādyadyapi syānmanōjavaḥ||” (ahirbu.sē.2-43) iti .

anyadapi kiṃcidāścaryamityāha – tasminnapō mātariśvā dadhāti – tasmin . vāsudēvē avasthitō mātariśvā. apaityupalakṣaṇam. pāthaḥpayōdharagrahanakṣatratārakādikaṃ . bibhartītyarthaḥ . dhāraṇānuguṇakāṭhinyarahitōäpi vāyuḥ pāthaḥprabhṛtikaṃ  bibhartītyadbhutam . sarvādhārabhūtēna sarvēśvarēṇa vidhṛtō vāyuḥ tacchaktyā ēvaṃ bibhartītyabhiprāyaḥ . “ēṣa sēturvidharaṇa ēṣāṃ lōkānāmasaṃbhēdāya” (bṛ.u.6-4-22) “ētasya vā akṣarasya praśāsanē gārgi sūryācandramasau vidhṛtau tiṣṭhataḥ” (bṛ.u.5-8-8) |

‘dyaussacandrārkanakṣatraṃ khaṃ diśō bhūrmahōdadhiḥ .

vāsudēvasya vīryēṇa vidhṛtāni mahātmanaḥ’ .. (ma.bhā.anu.156)

ityādiṣu prasidvamētat ..

tadējati tannaijati taddūrē tadvantikē .

tadantarasya sarvasya tadu sarvasyāsya bāhyataḥ .. 5 ..

atha idānīmācāryaḥ svōpadiṣṭaṃ vicitraśaktimatvamēva ādarārthaṃ mukhāntarēṇa punaranuśāsti – tadējati iti .

tattvanirdhāraṇāya punaḥ punaḥ upadēśaḥ

bhūyōbhūyaḥ pravacanaṃ śravaṇaṃ ca kartavyamiti ca punaranuśāsanasyābhiprāyaḥ . tathā ca śāstram —

“parīkṣya lōkān karmacitānbrāhmaṇō nirvēdamāyānnāstyakṛtaḥ kṛtēna .

tadvijñānārthaṃ sa gurumēvābhigacchētsamitpāṇiśśrōtriyaṃ brahmaniṣṭham ..

tasmai sa vidvānupasannāya samyakpraśāntacittāya śamānvitāya .

yēnākṣaraṃ puruṣaṃ vēda satyaṃ prōvāca tāṃ tattvatō brahmavidyām .. (mu.u.1-2-13)

iti . tattvataḥ – ajñānasaṃśayaviparyayanirāsō yathā bhavati tathā, prōvāca – prakarṣēṇa brūyāt – punaḥ punaḥ upadiśēt ityarthaḥ . ata ēva “tadviddhi praṇipātēna paripraśnēna sēvayā” (bha.gī.4-34) ityādi bhagavatōpadiṣṭasyāpyarthasya vaiśadyāya tattvadarśisakāśāt praṇipātādipurassaraṃ punaḥ punaḥ śravaṇaṃ vihitam . upadiṣṭā ca punaranugītēti āhurācāryāḥ .

tadējati tat – sarvavyāptaṃ paraṃbrahma . ējatīva – kampata iva, javīya ēvēti yāvat . tadu – tadēva naijati – vastutastu na kampatē . taddūrē ca tadēva antikē ca vartatē . asuradaivaprakṛtikapuruṣabhēdāpēkṣayā vibhōrēva dūrāntikavartitvavyapadēśaḥ āha ca . bhagavān śaunakaḥ

“parāṅmukhānāṃ gōvindē viṣayāsaktacētasām .

tēṣāṃ tatparamaṃ brahma dūrāddūtarē sthitam ..

tanmayatvēna gōvindē yē narā nyastacētasaḥ .

viṣayatyāginastēṣāṃ vijñēyaṃ ca tadantikē’ .. (vi.dha.99-13,14) iti .

idamapyēkaṃ vaicitryamityāha – tat – sarvavyāptaṃ paraṃ brahma asya sarvasya vividhavicitrarūpatayā pramāṇaprasiddhasya sarvasya vastunōäntarbhavati, tadēva punastadānīmēva sarvasya bahirapi bhavatītyarthaḥ . anyēṣāṃ tu gṛhāntarvartipuruṣāṇāṃ tadānīmēva na bahiṣṭhatvaṃ sambhavati; bahirvasatāṃ ca na antarvartitvamitīha vaicitryamiti bhāvaḥ .

antarbahiśca paramātmanō vayāptiprakāraḥ

yadyapyaṇuṣu nāntarvartitā sambhavati, tathāpyapratighātādavibhaktadēśatayā vartitvamātrēṇa aṇuṣu antarvartitvōktiḥ . ēvaṃ bahiryāptirapi avibhudravyāpēkṣayaiva, na tu vibhudravyāpēkṣayāpīti dṛṣṭavyam . tadidaṃ vaicitryaṃ taittirīyakēäpyuktam ‘antarbahiśca tatsarvaṃ vyāpya nārāyaṇaḥ sthitaḥ’ (tai.nā.94) iti ..

yastu sarvāṇi bhūtānyātmanyēvānupaśyati .

sarvabhūtēṣu cātmānaṃ tatō na vijugupsatē .. 6 ..

ēvaṃ sarvasya brahmātmakatyamuktam . atha “sarvaṃ jagat brahmātmakam” . ‘sandadhānasya prayōjanam āha – yastu sarvāṇi iti .

yaḥ – tattvajñānī, adhikāriṇō māhātmyajñāpanāya “tu” śabdaḥ . sarvāṇi bhūtāni brahamādisthāvarāntāni, ātmanyēva – paramātmanyēva, anusyūtaṃ paśyati – nididhyāsati ityarthaḥ. pṛthivyādibhiḥ dhriyamāṇamapi tanmukhēna paramātmanyēva sthitam ityēva kārābhiprāyaḥ . kiṃca, sarvabhūtēṣu cātmānam – paramātmānaṃ yaḥ paśyati ; idaṃ vyāpti mātraparam ; paramapuruṣasya ananyādhārayāt iti bhāvaḥ . yacchabdasya sa ini pratinirdēśōädhyāhāryaḥ . saḥ – uktatattvajñānī, tataḥ – tēṣu ; saptamyarthē tasiḥ . brahmātmakatayā dṛṣṭēṣu sarvēṣu bhūtēṣu ityarthaḥ . na vijugupsatē – kutaścidapi na bībhatsatē “svātmavibhūtinyāyāt’ kvacidapi nindāṃ na karōtīti bhāvaḥ ..

yasminsarvāṇi bhūtānyātmaivābhūdvijānataḥ .

tatra kō mōhaḥ kaḥ śōkaḥ ēkatvamanupaśyataḥ .. 7 ..

apṛthaksidbhaviśēṣaṇatayānusandhānaphalam

ēvaṃ vaiyadhikaraṇyēnōktaṃ sarvasya brahmātmakatvaṃ sāmānādhikaraṇyēnāpi draḍayan tathānudhyānasya sadyaśśōkamōhanivartakatyam āha — yasmin sarvāṇi iti .

yasmin – praṇidhānasamayē, vijānataḥ – ‘īśāvāsyam’ (ī.u.1) ityārabhya tatō na vijugupsatē’ (ī.u.6) ityēvamantēna upadiṣṭaṃ svatantraparatantravastubhēdaṃ yathōpadēśaṃ vivicya jānataḥ ityarthaḥ . nanvēvaṃ atyantabhēdābhyupagamē ‘sarvabhūtānyātmaivābhūt’ iti sāmānādhikaraṇyaṃ bhajyēta ityāśaṃkya tannirvāhāya ‘yasya pṛthivī śarīraṃ— (bṛ.u.5-7-7)  yasyātmā śarīraṃ (bṛ.u.mā.pā.3-7-30) ityādi ghaṭakaśrutisiddha sambandhaviśēṣamāha — ēkatvamanupaśyata iti . ākṛtivyaktyōriva guṇaguṇinōriva ca atyantabhinnayōrēva jagadbrahmaṇōḥ ēkatvaṃ vibhāgānarhasambandhaviśēṣaṃ paśyataḥ viśadatamamanudhyāyata ityarthaḥ . ‘rāmasugrīvayōraikyaṃ dēvyēvaṃ samajāyata (rā.su.35-52) ityādiṣviva ihāpi ēkaśabdasya sambandhaviśēṣa ēvārthō vivakṣituṃ yukta iti bhāvaḥ . ēvaṃ ca satyāha — sarvāṇi bhūtānyātmaivābhūt iti . paramātmaiva sarvabhūtaśarīrakaḥ pratītōäbhūt ityarthaḥ . tatra tadā praṇidhānasamayē, kō mōhaḥ – svatantrātmabhramādilakṣaṇō mōhō na sambhavati . kaśśōka: – paramātmavibhūtitayāvagatē sarvasminnirmamatyasiddhayā putramaraṇarājyaharaṇādērapi na kaścicchōkassyāt ityarthaḥ.

yathāha — ‘ananta bata mēṃ vittaṃ yasya mē nāsti kiṃcana. . | mithilāyā pradīptāyō na mē kiṃcitpradahyatē.. (ma.bhā.śāṃ.17-223) iti .

sāmānādhikaraṇyanirvāhavaividhyam

atra kēcit “sarvāṇi bhūtānyātmaivābhūt” iti bādhārtha sāmānādhikaraṇyam, tathā ca ātmaiva sarvāṇi bhūtāni, ātmavyatiriktāni sarvāṇi na santītyarthaḥ, yathā cōraḥ sthāṇuḥ’ iti ; ‘sthāṇurēyāyaṃ, na cōraḥ’ iti hi tasyārthaḥ; tathā ihāpītyāhuḥ ..

anyē tu ‘narapatirēva sarvē lōkāḥ “itivat aupacārikamidaṃ sāmānādhikaraṇyam narapattyadhīnāssarvē janāḥ” iti hi tatra nirvāhaḥ, tadvadihāpi paramātmādhīnāni sarvāṇi bhūtāni iti bhāvaṃ varṇayanti . |

aparē tu ‘ghaṭaśarāvādayaḥ sarvē mṛtpiṇḍa ēva’ itivat jagadbrahamaṇōḥ ēkadavyat parikalpyaiva idaṃ sāmānādhikaraṇyaṃ nirvāhyam ityācakṣatē .

siddhāntastu – ‘dēvōäham, manuṣyōäham’ ityādivat śarīrātmabhāvasambandhēnaiva jagadbrahmasāmānādhikaraṇyanirvāhē sambhavati sati bādhōpacārasvarūpaikyapakṣa vaidikairbahiṣkāryāḥ iti ..

sa paryagācchukramakāyamavraṇamasnāviraṃ śuddhamapāpaviddham .

kavirmanīṣī paribhūḥ svayaṃbhūryāthātathyatōärthānvyadadhācchāśvatībhyaḥ samābhyaḥ .. 8 ..

punarapyēnam īśēśitavyatattvavēdinaṃ cēditavyēśvarasvarūpaśōdhanēna ca viśiṃṣan . dhyānayōgādikamapi upadiśati – sa paryagāt iti .

saḥ – sarvabhūtāntarātmabhūtabrahmadarśī, paryagāt – paryagacchat , prāpnuyādityartha: brahmavidāpnōti param’ (tai.āna.1-2) iti nyāyāt . yadvā, samādhilabdhēna anubhavēna ‘upalabdhavān iti siddhānuvādaḥ. ‘atra brahma samaśnutē (ka.u.6-14) itivat . śukum – avadātam, svaprakāśarūpamityarthaḥ. akāyam – sarvaśarīrakamapi karmakṛtahēyaśarīrarahitamityarthaḥ . “ na tasya prākṛtā mūrtirmāsamēdōästhisambhavā” (varā.pu.75-41) iti hēyaśarīrasyaivānyatra pratiṣēdhadarśanāt, na tu divyamaṃgalavigraharahitamityarthaḥ . “yattē rūpaṃ kalyāṇataramaṃ tattē paśyāmi” (ī.u.16) ya ēṣōäntarādityē hiraṇmayaḥ puruṣō dṛśyatē” (chā.u.1-6-6) ‘ādityavarṇaṃ tamasaḥ . parastāt” (śvē.u.3-8) ityādinā upaniṣatprasiddhasya aprākṛtadivyavigrahasya iha niṣēdhāyōgāt iti bhāvaḥ . avraṇam – karmāyattaśarīrābhāvādēya akṣatam  asnāviram – snāyu: sirā yasmin vidyatē tat snāviram, snāviram  na bhavati . iti asnāviram, śuddham – anāghātājñānādidōṣagandham aśanāyādiṣaḍūrmirahitaṃ . ca, apāpaviddham – ajñānādēḥ kāryabhūtaiḥ kāraṇabhūtaiśca puṇyapāparūpakarmabhi:. anālīḍhamityarthaḥ . na śōkō na sukṛtaṃ na duṣkṛtam’ ityārabhya “sarvē pāpmānāätō . nivartantē’ (cha.u.8-4-1) iti pāpaśabdēna upasaṃhāradarśanāt svargādihētubhūta puṇyaviśēṣasyāpi iha pāpaśabdēna saṃgrahaṇam iti bhāvaḥ . ēvam aśēṣaṇahēyapratyanīka paramātmānaṃ sa vidvānparyagāditi pūrvēṇa sambandhaḥ .|

ēvaṃ rūpaḥ paramātmā prāpyaḥ prāpakaṃ upāsyaśca yasya tē brahmavidaṃ viśinaṣṭi kaviḥ – vyāsādivatparamapuruṣatatsyarūpatadvibhūtitatkalyāṇaguṇādiprakāśakaprandha  rūpāṇī nirmātā ityarthaḥ . athavā kaviḥ – kāntadarśī, yōgābhyāsa vidhuramanasā durdaśē pariśuddhajīvātmasvarūpē ativiśadāvicchinnadhārāsmṛtirūpajñānayōganiṣṭha ityarthaḥ . karmayōgastu “kuryannēvēha karmāṇi” (ī.u.2) iti ślōkēna purastādēyōktaḥ . atha jñānayōgasādhyaṃ pratyagātmasākṣātkārahētubhūtaṃ jīvātmayōgamāha – manīṣī iti . manasa īśitrī buddhirmanīṣā, tadvān manīṣī, saundaryasauśīlyādibhagavadguṇāṃnāṃ smṛtyabhyāsēna anyaviṣayavairāgyēṇa ca nigṛhītāntaḥkaraṇa ityarthaḥ . tathā ca gīyatē –

‘asaṃśayaṃ mahābāhō manō durnigrahaṃ calam .

abhyāsēna ca kauntēya vairāgyēṇa ca gṛhyatē .. (bha.gī.6-35)

iti . niratiśayasukharūpasvātmasākṣātkārāya svātmani mana: praṇidhānakriyārūpayōgābhyāsaparaḥ iti bhāvaḥ . paribhū: – kāmakrōdhādīn durjayān arātīn paribhavatīti paribhū: . anēna virōdhinivṛttirūpayōgāṃgasēyanamuktam . yōgābhyāsaphalamāha – svayambhū: – anyanirapēkṣasattākaḥ, nityaniratiśayasukharūpatayā syātmadarśīti yāvat . yāthātathyatōärthānyadadhāt – yathāvadvivicya arthān – praṇavārthān “tasya yācaka: praṇayaḥ” (pā.yō.sū.1-27) “tajjapastadarthabhāvanam” (pā.yō.sū.28) iti sūtrōktāna, vyadadhāt – hṛdayēna dhṛtavān ityarthaḥ . arthān – mōkṣatadupāyatadvirōdhiprabhṛtīnsarvānpadārthān, śāśvatībhyassamābhyaḥ – yāvadbrahmaprāptītyarthaḥ . yāthātathyataḥyathāvat, vyadadhāt – vivicya hṛdayēna dhṛtavān, sarvapratyūhaśamanārthamiti bhāvaḥ ..

athavā – ‘śukum’ ityādi dvitīyāntapadajātaṃ pariśuddhajīvaparam . tamapi sa paramātmā paryagāt paritō vyāpya sthita iti prathamāntapadajātaṃ paramātmaparaṃ yōjanīyam . tathā hi kaviḥ -syatassaryadarśī śrīpācaṃrātrādipraṇētā vā, manīṣī – manaḥprabhṛtīnāṃ jīvakaraṇānāṃ niyantā, paritō bhavatīti paribhūḥ – sarvavyāpī, svayamēva bhavati udbhavatīti svayambhūḥ – “bahudhā vijāyatē” (pu.sū.) ityādi prasidbhāvatāraśālītyarthaḥ . atra ‘kaviḥ’ ityādinā kalyāṇaguṇavidhānāt chāndōgyē “ēṣa ātmāäpahatapāpmā vijarō vimṛtyurviśōkō vijighatsōäpipāsaḥ” (chā.u.8-1-5) iti kalyāṇaguṇavidhānācca, “nirguṇam” (ātmōpaniṣat ) “niraṃjanam” (śvē.u.6-19) ityādi sāmānyaniṣēdhasya hēyaguṇaniṣēdhaparatvaṃ sugamam . yāthātathyata ityādi . arthān – kāryapadārthān  śāśvatībhyassamābhyaḥ – yāvadvilayamavasthātum yāthātathyataḥ – yathāvat vyadadhātṛvivicya utpāditavān, na punaraindrajālikavat kēvalaṃ prakāśitavān iti  bhāva:.

andhaṃ tamaḥ praviśanti yēävidyāmupāsatē .

tatō bhūya iva tē tamō ya u vidyāyāṃratāḥ .. 9 ..

ēvaṃ vicitraśaktikaparamātmaviṣayāṃ karmayōgādyaṃcaṃgikāṃ vidyāmupadiśya anantaraṃ tribhiśślōkai: kēvalakarmāvalambinaḥ kēvaḷavidyāyalambinaśca puruṣānvinindana varṇāśramadharmānugṛhītayā vidyayaiva niśśrēyasāvāptimāha – andhaṃ tamaḥ praviśanti ityādinā .

bṛhadāraṇyakē cāyaṃ mantraḥ paṭhitaḥ . yē – bhōgaiśvaryaprasaktāḥ, avidyām – vidyānyāṃ . kiyāṃ kēvalakarma ityarthaḥ . vidyāvidhuraṃ karmēti yāvat . “avidyā karmasaṃjñānyā tṛtīyā . śaktiriṣyatē” (vi.pu.6-7-61) iti smṛtēḥ . upāṃsatē – ēkāntamanasōänutiṣṭhanti; tē andhaṃ tamaḥ – atigāḍhaṃ tamaḥ ajñānamityarthaḥ . trivargābhiṣaḍgānnāntarīyaṃ nārakaṃ tamō vā. adhīyatē ca ātharvaṇikāḥ –

‘plavā hyētē adṛḍhā yajñarūpā aṣṭādaśōktamavaraṃ yēṣu karma .

ētacchēyō yēbhinandanti mūḍhā jarāmṛtyū tē punarēvāpi yanti.. (mu.u 1-2-7) iti .

ya u vidyāyāṃ ratāḥ – ukāra uttarapadēnānvētavyaḥ . yē – syādhikārōcita karmaparityāgēna vidyāyāmēva ratāḥ – tē tataḥ – karmamātraniṣṭhaprāpya andhaḥ tamasāt  bhūya iva tamaḥ – adhikam ajñānaṃ viśanti . ‘iva’ śabda tamasaḥ iyattāyā durgrahatvaṃ  dyōtayati .

anyadēvāhurvidyayāänyadāhuravidyayā .

iti śuśruma dhīrāṇāṃ yē nastadvicacakṣirē .. 10 ..

kiṃ tarhimōkṣasādhanamityatrāha – anyadēvāhuḥ iti . vidyayā iti paṃcamyarthē tṛtīya yathāśrutatvē anyaśabdānanvayāt, ‘anyadēvāhussambhavāt (ī.u.13) iti vakṣyamāṇānusārācca . tathā vidyāyāḥ – karmarahitavidyātaḥ, anyat – mōkṣasādhanam  ityāhuḥ . upaniṣada iti śēṣaḥ . avidyayā – iti pūrvavat paṃcamyarthē tṛtīyā . avidyātaḥ brahmajñānavidhurakarmaṇaśca anyadēva mōkṣasādhanam ityāhuḥ . upaniṣada iti bhāvaḥ..

pūrvapūrvasampradāyasiddhōärthōäyamasmākam ityāha – iti śuśruma iti . yēpūrvācāryāḥ naḥ – praṇipātādibhiḥ samyagupasannānām asmākam, tat – mōkṣasādhanam, vicacakṣirē – vivicya upādiśan, tēṣāṃ dhīrāṇām – dhīmatām . paṃcamyarthē ṣaṣṭhī. tēbhyō dhīrēbhya iti yōjanīyam, naṭasya śrṛṇōti’ itivat . naṭācchṛṇōti ityarthaḥ . iti śuśruma ēvaṃ prakāram aśrauṣma.

nanu – parōkṣa ēvārthē liḍvidhānāt ‘śuśruma’ iti liḍuttamapuruṣō na ghaṭata iti cēt – maivam ; brahmavidyāyā duravagāhatvēna niśśēṣagrahaṇam asmābhiḥ na kṛtam ityabhiprāyaṃ kṛtvā liḍuttamasyōpapattēḥ ityāhuḥ ..

vidyāṃ cāvidyāṃ ca yastadvēdōbhayaṃ saha .

avidyayā mṛtyuṃ tīrtvā vidyayāämṛtamaśnutē .. 11 ..

“anyat” iti sāmānyēnōktaṃ mōkṣasādhanaṃ vivṛṇōti vidyāṃcāvidyāṃ ca iti .

“kurvannēvēha karmāṇi” iti ślōkē karmayōgasya pratyagātmadarśanadvārā parabhaktyutpādakatvam uktam, iha tu utpannabhaktiyōgēna viduṣā pūrvōktakarmayōgavēṣaṃ parityajya aharaharanuṣṭīyamānānāṃ nityanaimittikakarmaṇāṃ kalmaṣanibarhaṇadvārā bhaktiyōgōpacāyakatvam ucyatē, sahaśabdasvārasyāt . atō na punaruktatā.

ya:- yathāyasthitavidyōpadēśavān . vidyām – brahmōpāsanarūpām . avidyām tadaṃga bhūtakarmātmikāṃ ca ētadubhayam . sahavēda – aṃgāṃgibhāvēna saha anuṣṭhēyaṃ vēda ityarthaḥ. atra avidyāśabdaḥ kṣatriyaviṣayakābrāhmaṇaśabdavat tadanyavṛttyā vidyāṃgakarmaviṣaya iti bhāvaḥ . avidyayā – ‘vidyāṃgarūpatayā cōditēna karmaṇā, mṛtyum  – vidyōtpattipratibandhakabhūtaṃ puṇyapāparūpaṃ prāktanaṃ karma . tīrtvāniravaśiṣamullaṃdhya vidyayā – paramātmōpāsanarūpayā. amṛtamaśnutē – mōkṣaṃ prāpnōti ityarthaḥ . tīrtvā ityatra upāyavirōdhitaraṇam ucyatē . ‘amṛtamaśnutē’ iti tu upēyabramaprāptivirōdhibhūtēbhyaḥ sarvapāpēbhyō mōkṣa iti bhēdaḥ ..

upavṛmhaṇayiyaraṇam

ēvaṃ ca sati –

iyāja sōäpi subahūnyajñāna jñānavyapāśrayaḥ .

brahmavidyāmadhiṣṭhāya tartuṃ mṛtyumavidyayā .. (vi.pu.6-6-12)

jñānavyapāśrayaḥ – śāstraśravaṇajanyabrahmajñānavān . ‘saḥ – janakōäpi brahmavidyām – nididhyāsanarūpām . adhiṣṭhāya — phalatyēna āśrityētyarthaḥ : bhaktiyōgōtpattiṃ kāmayamāna iti yāvat . mṛtyuṃ – bhaktyutpattivirōdhi prācīnaṃ karmajātama, avidyayā – anabhisaṃhitaphalēna yidyāṃgakarmaṇā, tartuṃ – vyapōhitam, subahūn yajñān – jyōtiṣṭōmādikān iyāja – akarōta ityarthaḥ . “pākaṃ papāca” itivat  . yathā – “kaṣāyapaktiḥ karmāṇi jñānaṃ tu paramā gatiḥ” (ma.bhā.śāṃ.276) paramabhagavadārādhanarūpāṇi iti anabhisaṃhitasvargādiphalāni karmāṇi kaṣāyasya ubhayavidhapāpasya tajjanyarāgadvēṣādērvā paktiḥ vināśakāraṇāni . jñānaṃ tu paramāgatiḥ paramagatisādhanamityarthaḥ . ubhayatrāpi kāraṇē kāryōpacāra: .

“kaṣāyē karmabhiḥ pakvē tatō jñānaṃ pravartatē” . (ma.bhā.śāṃ.276) .

“tapō vidyā ca viprasya niśrēyasakarāvubhau.

tapasā kalmaṣaṃ hanti vidyayāämṛtamaśnutē” .. (ma.smṛ.12-104)

ityādīnyupabṛmhaṇaśatāni susaṃgatāni bhavēyuḥ.

andhaṃ tamaḥ praviśanti yēäsaṃbhūtimupāsatē .

tatō bhūya iva tē tamō ya u saṃbhūtyāṃ ratāḥ .. 12 ..

ēvaṃ samādhiniṣpattēḥ . anabhisaṃhitaphalanityanaimittikakarmasādhyatvamupadiśya anantaraṃ tribhiśślōkai: niṣiddhanivṛttirūpayōgāṃgasādhyatvamāha . tatra prathamaṃ pūrvavadēkaikamātraniṣṭhānvinindati – andhaṃ tamaḥ praviśanti iti .

sambhūtivināśayōrēkaikasyōpāsanasya tyājyatā

“ētamitaḥ prētyābhisambhavitāsmi” (chāṃ.u.3-14-4) “brahmalōkam abhisambhavāmi” (chāṃ.u.8-13-1) ityādiṣu prāptirūpā anubhūtiḥ sambhūtiśabdēna uktā . iha tu samādhirūpā sā sambhūtiśabdēna ucyatē . asambhūtiśabdastu samādhirūpāṃ sambhūtyanyāṃ samādhyaṃgabhūtāṃ niṣiddhanivṛttimāha . “sambhūtiṃ ca vināśaṃ ca” ityuttaratra vināśaśabdēnāsambhūtairanuyādāt . tathā ca yē – vidyādhikāriṇaḥ asambhūtimēva mānadambhahiṃsāstēyādīnāṃ yōgavirudvānāṃ nivṛttimēvōpāsatē – nivṛttimātraniṣṭhā: ityarthaḥ; “tē ‘andhaṃ tamaḥ praviśanti” iti pūrvavadarthaḥ . yē punassamādhirūpasambhūtyāmēya ratāḥ, tē tatō bhūya iva – bahutaramiya tamaḥ praviśantītyarthaḥ .

anyadēvāhuḥ saṃbhavādanyadāhurasaṃbhavāt .

mānadambhādinivṛtyaṃgakabrahmānubhūtēḥ muktisādhakatyam

“anyat” ityuktaṃ vivṛṇōti — sambhūtiṃ ca iti . sambhūtiṃ ca – samādhirūpa brahmānubhūtiṃ ca, vināśaṃ ca – mānadambhahiṃsāstēyabahirmukhēndriyavṛttiviśēṣarūpāḥ yē. yōgavirōdhinaḥ, tēṣāṃ vināśaṃ varjanaṃ cētyētadubhayaṃ yō vidvān aṃgāṃgibhāvēna saha vēda, vināśēna – niṣēvyamāṇēnēti śēṣaḥ . virōdhinivṛttirūpayōgagisēvanēna ityarthaḥ .. mṛtyum – samādhivirōdhipāpam . tītvā – apākṛtya, niṣpannayā sambhūtyā amṛtam aśnutē – prāptirūpāṃ sambhūtimēva aśnuta iti bhāvaḥ ..

pūrvōktānusandhānē śrutiprāmāṇyam

ayamēva dambhādivināśō bṛhadāraṇyakē ‘tasmādabrāhmaṇaḥ pāṇḍityaṃ nirvidya bālyēna tiṣṭhāsēt (bṛ.u.5-5-1) iti bālyaśabdēna vidyāṃgatayā vihitaḥ . atra sambhūtivināśaśabdābhyāṃ sṛṣṭipralayavivakṣayā kāryahiraṇyagarbhasya avyākṛtapradhānasya ca upāsanaṃ vidhīyata iti śāṃkaravyākhyānamanupapannam, tathā sati mṛtyutaraṇāmṛtatvaprāptirūpaphalavacanānaucityāt iti ..

hiraṇmayēna pātrēṇa satyasyāpihitaṃ mukham .

tattvaṃ pūṣannapāvṛṇu satyadharmāya dṛṣṭayē ..15 ..

ēvamācāryaḥ sāṃgibhaktiyōgamupadiśya atha tanniṣṭhasya anusandhēyaṃ mantradvayam  upadiśati . tatra prathamēna mantrēṇa pūṣaśabdavivakṣitaṃ bhagavantaṃ prati prastatāṃ samādhipratibandhakanivṛttiṃ prārthayatē hiraṇmayēna iti .

hē pūṣan – ādityāntaryāmin “ya ādityē tiṣṭhan” (bṛ.u.5-7-13) ityārabhya “ya ādityamantarō yamayati” (bṛ.u.5-7-13) iti śrutēḥ ; śāstradṛṣṭyā tūpadēśō vāmadēvavat (bra.sū. 1-1-31) iti nyāyācca..

yadvā, pūṣan ! āśritapōṣaṇasvabhāva ! ityarthaḥ . “sākṣādapyavirōdhaṃ jaimini:” (bra.sū.1-2-29) iti sūtritatvāt . satyasya – satyaśabdēna atra prakṛtyādivat. svarūpavikārarahitō jīvātmōcyatē . “satyaṃ cānṛtaṃ ca satyamabhavat” ( tai.āna, 6-3) ityādiṣujīvēäpi satyaśabdaprayōgāt . tasya mukham-mukhavat anēkēndriyāvaṣṭambhatayā mukhasadṛśaṃ mana ityarthaḥ . hiraṇmayēna – hiraṇmayasadṛśēna, karmādhīnabhōgyavargēṇēti yāvat . pātrēṇa – paramātmaviṣayakavṛttipratirōdhakēna apihitam – chāditam, hṛdinihatē paramātmaviṣayē niruddhavṛttikaṃ jātamityarthaḥ . tat – jīvasya mukhasthānīyaṃ manaḥ tvam .. hṛṣīkāṇāmīśaḥ tvam apāvṛṇu – nirastatirōdhānaṃ kuru ityarthaḥ . tatkasya hētōḥ ? tatrāha – satyadharmāya – satyasya jīvasya dharmabhūtāyai dṛṣṭayē . dṛṣṭiḥ – darśanam, tyaddarśanāyēti bhāvaḥ ..

pūṣannēkarṣē yama sūrya   prājāpatya vyūha raśmīn samūha   tējaḥ .

yattē rūpaṃ kalyāṇatamaṃ tattē paśyāmi yōäsāvasau purūṣaḥ sōähamasmi .. 16 ..

punarapi tayā dṛṣṭyā dṛṣṭavyaṃ viśiṣan darśanaṃ tatsādhanaṃ cābhyarthayatē – pūṣan iti|

pūṣan – āśritapōṣaka . ēkaścāsāvṛṣiśca ēkarṣiḥ – advitīyōätīndriyārthadṛṣṭā. “nānyōätōästi dṛṣṭā” (bṛ.u.5-7-23) iti śrutēḥ . yama-yamayati sarvān iti yamaḥ, sarvāntaryāmin . “ya:” pṛthivīmantarō yamayati – – – – – – ya ātmānamantarō yamayati’ (śata,brā.14-5-7, 30) ityādiśrutēḥ. sūrya – syabhaktabuddhīnāṃ suṣṭhu prēraka . prājāpatya – prajāpatiḥ caturmukhaḥ, tasya sutāḥ prājāpatyāḥ, tēṣāmantaryāmin . yadvā – prajāpatirēva prājāpatyaḥ, vaiśvānara itivat, viśvānara ēva hi vaiśvānaraḥ ; tathā ca prajānāṃ patiriti vyutpattyā prajāpatiḥ viṣṇuḥ ‘prajāpatiścarati garbhē antaḥ’ (tai.nā.1-1) iti śrutēḥ . cyūha raśmīn – bhavadīyadivyarūpadarśanānupayuktān  svōgraraśmīna, vyūha – vyapōha vigamayētyarthaḥ . yattu darśanaupayikaṃ prabhātmakaṃ saumyaṃ tējaḥ – tat samūha – samūhīkuru . tatkimarthamityāśaṃkya arjunādivadṛṣṭumicchāmi tē rūpamityāha – yat iti . “ādityavaṇaṃ tamasaḥ parastāt” (pu.sū) ityādiṣu prasiddhamityarthaḥ . tē – “ānandō brahma” (tai.bhū.2-1) iti niratiśayabhōgyasya tava atikalyāṇatamaṃ saundaryādiguṇātiśayēna priyatamaṃ sarvēbhyaḥ kalyāṇaguṇēbhyōätiśayitaṃ kalyāṇaṃ ca śubhāśrayabhūtamityarthaḥ . tē – yaddivyaṃ rūpaṃ tat paśyāmi – paśyēyamiti liḍarthō grāhya: .. lakāravyatyayaśchandasaḥ . dṛṣṭumicchāmi iti bhāvaḥ ..

bhagavadvigrahasya divyatvam

“akāyamavraṇam” (ī.u.8) “aśarīraṃ śarīrēṣu” (ka.u.2-22) “apāṇipādō javanō grahītā” (śvē.u.3-19) ityādi sāmānyavacanāni, “ajāyamānaḥ” (pu.) “ajōäpi sannatavyayātmā” (bha.gī.4-6) na cāsya prākṛtā mūrtiḥ” (varā.pu.75-42) ityādi viśēṣavacanasiddhahēyaśarīrapratiṣēdhaparāṇi .

nanu “yattē rūpaṃ kalyāṇatamaṃ”, “ya ēṣōäntarādityē hiraṇmayaḥ puruṣaḥ” (chāṃ.u.1-6-6) “īśāvāsyamidaṃ sarvam” (ī.u.1) “patiṃ viśvasyātmēśvaram” (tai.nā. ) “sarvakarmā sarvagandhaḥ” (chāṃ.u.3-14-2) svābhāvikī jñānabalakṛiyā ca (śvē.u.6-8) “tasya ha yā ētasya brahmaṇō nāma satyamiti” (chā.u.8-3-4) “tasyōditi nāma” (chāṃ.u.1-6-7) ityādibhiḥ śāstrairguṇavigrahādayō brahmaṇōäpi vidhīyantē ; “nigurṇam” (ātmōpaniṣat ) “niraṃjanam” (śvē,u.6-19) “avikārāya” (vi.pu.1-2-1) “akāyamavraṇam” (ī.u.8) “nēha nānāsti kiṃcana” (ka.u.4-11) “niṣkalaṃ niṣkriyam” (śvē.u.6-19) “agōtramavarṇam” (mu.u.1-1-6) agōtramiti – anāmakamityarthaḥ . ēvamādibhiśśāstrai: guṇādayaḥ pratiṣidhyantē . tathā ca vidhipratiṣēdhayōḥ virōdhādanyatarabādhōägvaśyabhāyī. tatra niṣēdhasya prasaktipūrvakatayā paścātpravṛtta pratiṣēdhaśāstramapacchēdādhikaraṇanyāyēna prabalam . ataḥ pratiṣēdhabalēna guṇādividhayaḥ sarvē bādhitāḥ . tataśca avidyākhyadōṣaparikalpitā guṇavigrahādayō mithyābhūtā iti .

tadidamanādaraṇīyam paśucchāganayēna, utsargāpavādanayēna ca vidhiniṣēdhayō: bhinnaviṣayatvōpapādanēna tayōrvirōdhagandhābhāvāt . vidhīnāṃ pratiṣēdhabādhyatvānupapattēḥ . taduktaṃ yadācāryaistattvasārē –

yadbrahmaṇō guṇavikāraśarīrabhēdakarmādigōcaravidhipratiṣēdhavācaḥ .

anyōnyabhinnaviṣayā na virōdhagandhamarhanti tannavidhayaḥ pratiṣēdhabādhyāḥ’ .. (ta.sā.69) iti ..

atha antaryāmiṇam ahaṃgrahēṇānusandhattē – yōäsāvasau puruṣassōhamasmi iti . asāvasāviti vīpsā ādarārthā . yadvā – adaśśabdau vibhajya yattacchabdābhyām . anyētavyau . kathamiti cēt – itthaṃ – yōäsau puruṣaḥ, ahaṃ sōäsāvasmīti .

puruṣaśabdasya paramātmārthakatvasthāpanam

yadyapi puruṣaśabdaḥ “prakṛtiṃ puruṣaṃ caiva vidhyanādī ubhāvapi” (bha.gī. 13-19) ‘yōgō yōgavidōṃ nētā pradhānapuruṣēśvaraḥ’ (vi.sa.3) ityādiṣu jīvavācitayā prasiddhaḥ; tathāpi “tēnēdaṃ pūrṇaṃ puruṣēṇa sarvam” (śvē.u.39, mu.u.1-1-7) “pūrvamēvāhamihāsamiti tatpuruṣasya puruṣatvam” (tai.āra.1-23) “mahān prabhurvai puruṣassattvasyaiṣa pravartakaḥ” (śvē.u.3-12) ityādiśrutyā pūrṇatvapūrvasattyādiguṇakasarvavēdapaṭhitapuruṣasūktādiprasiddhō mahāpuruṣa ēva iha puruṣaśabdēna vivakṣitaḥ.

jīvabhmaṇōrasāmānādhikaraṇyam

nanu “yōäsau puruṣassōäsāvahamasmi” (ma.smṛ.1-7) iti kathaṃ sāmānādhikaraṇyam  ahaṃpadārthasya jīvātmanaḥ paramapuruṣādabhinnatvāt iti cēt na – ahaṃśabdēnāpi asmadarthāntaryāmiṇa ēvābhidhānēna ahaṃ sa iti nirdēśasya susaṃgatatvāt . nanu ca  ahaṃśabdasya pratyagarthāntaryāmiparatvē sōäsmītyuttamapuruṣō na ghaṭatē, nahi madantaryāmi paramapuruṣōäsmīti anyayō yujyatē -iti cēt ucyatē . madantaryāmītyādiśabdāntarēṇō pasthāpitē pratyagarthāntaryāmiṇi uttamapuruṇānyayāsambhavēäpi ahamityasmatpadōpa  sthāpitē tasminnuttamapuruṣānvayō yujyata ēva . tathā hi pāṇinisūtram “asmadyuttamaḥ” (pā.sū.1-4-107) iti . pratyagarthabōdhakāsmacchabdōpapadē uttamapuruṣō bhavatītyarthaḥ . na punarasma-cchabdasyapratyagarthadvārāparamātmaparyantatāyāmuttamanivṛttiriti,”adhikaṃtupraviṣṭaṃ na tu taddhānikaram” iti nyāyāt ..

ēvaṃ “tattvamasi” (chāṃ.u.6-8-7) ityādiṣvapi asīti madhyamapuruṣō nirvāhya: .. tvaṃpadēnābhimukhacētanadvārēva tadantaryāmiṇōäbhidhānābhyupagamāt . tatrāpi “yuṣmadyupapadē samānādhikaraṇē sthāninyapi madhyamaḥ” (pā.sū.1-4-105) ityētāvadēva hi smaryatē . na tu yuṣmacchabdasya syābhimukhacētanadvārā tadantaryāmiparyantatvē madhyamanivṛttirapi ..

advaitināṃ matē madhyamōttamapuruṣānupapattiḥ

yē tu “tattvamasi” (chāṃ.u.6-8-7) “sōähamasmi” (chāṃ.u.4-11-1) ityādāvahaṃtvamādiśabdē yuṣmadasmadarthaparityāgēna nirviśēṣacinmātrasvarūpaikyamēva vākyavēdyamāhuḥ, tānēva “tattvamasi” (chāṃ.u.6-8-7) ityādivākyēṣu asiriva “sōähamasmi” iti . vākyasthāsmirapi khaṇḍayati. śrōtaryanusandhātaricayuṣmadasmadī hitaiḥ parityaktē . nahi. tēṣāmasinā kaścitpratibōdhanīyōästi, na ca kaścidasminā viśiṣyānusandhēyaḥ.

nanu prakṛtē yuṣmadasmadarthayōḥ avivakṣāyāmapi tayōḥ vyutpannayuṣmadasmacchabdō papadamātrōpajīvanēna asmatpakṣēäpi kvacinmadhyamōttamayōrūpapattiriti cēnna, tatōäpya. parityaktapravṛttinimittakasya asmākaṃ nirvahaṇasyaivānusartumucitatvāt .

pakṣāntarē madhyamōttamapuruṣōpapattiḥ

aparētvāhaḥ “yōäsāvasau puruṣassōähamasmi” ityatra puruṣaśabdēna paramapuruṣō na vipakṣaṇīyaḥ, tathā sati asmītyuttamasya puruṣaḥ’ ityākhyāyāḥ “sōäham” iti ca sāmānādhikaraṇyasya klēśēna nirvāhyatvāt . tatō varamatra puruṣaśabdasya pariśuddhajīvātmaparatvam āśrayitum . ēvaṃ ca sati yaḥ puruṣa: muktadaśābhāvyākāraḥ pariśaddhajīvātmā sōhamasmītyanvayāt uttamasya ‘puruṇaḥ’ ityākhyāyāḥ sāmānādhikaraṇyasya ca atisvarasō nirvāha iti .

nāyaṃ pakṣassādhuḥ – tathā bhavatvēvamiha nirvahaṇaṃ, tathāpi “tattvamasi” (chāṃ.u.6-8-7) ityatratatpadasyatvaṃ vā ahamasmi bhagavōdēvatē “ahaṃ vai tvamasi” (varā.u.2-34) ityādiṣu tvaṃpadasya ca paradēvatāvācakatyēna tvaduktanirvāhasya tatrābhāvāt akāmēnāpi tatra asmaduktanirvāhasya samāśrayaṇē tatsamānanyāyatayā atrāpi tasyaiva anusartum . ucitatvāt iti .

madhyamōttamapuruṣavyavasthāsamarthanam

syādētat . “tvaṃ vā ahamasmi bhagavō dēvatē ahaṃ vai tvamasi” (varā.u. 2-34) ityatra kathaṃ puruṣavyavasthā ? tvamahaṃ padayōrubhayōrapi śravaṇāt .

uddēśyaviṣayakamēva yuṣmadādipadam upapadatvēna pāṇinisūtrābhimatam, tathā ca uddēśyasamarpakōpapadavaśādēva atra madhyamōttamayōrvyavasthā siddhayatīti cēt – astvēvamiha samādhānaṃ ; tathāpi “tattvamasi” (chāṃ.u.6-8-7) ityatra puruṣavyavasthā na ghaṭatē, tatra tvaṃpadayōgavat tatpadayōgasyāpi sattvāt . tathā ca asītivat astīti prathamapuruṣasyāpi prasaṃgaḥ, na hyatrāpi tvaṃpadam uddēśyasamarpakaṃ, yēna tvaṃpadamēva puruṇanimitta na tatpadamapīti vyavasthā syāt .

tathā ca tattvamasinirūpaṇāvasarē bhāṣyaṃ “nātra kiṃciduddiśya kimapi vidhīyatē” (śrī.bhā. 1-1-1) iti . tasmāt tattvamasi (chāṃ.u.6-8-7) itivat tattvamastīti prayōgōäpi durnivāra iti .

atrōcyatē – ‘tattvamasi (chāṃ.u 6-8-7) ityatrāpi tvaṃpadārtha uddēśya ēva . tataśca uddēśyaviṣayakayuṣmatpadavaśāt tatra madhyama ēvēti na prathamapuruṣaprasaṃgaḥ .

nanyēvaṃ bhāṣyavirōdha iti cēnna – bhāṣyasya vidhēyāṃśamātraniṣēdhaparatayā uddēśyāṃśaniṣēdhakatvābhāvāt . tathā hi na hyēvaṃ bhāṣyābhiprāyaḥ, nātra kiṃciduddiśyatē,na ca kiṃcidvidhīyatē ityapi ..

tarhyēvaṃ bhāṣyābhiprāyē tvaṃpadēna kiṃciduddiśyata ēva, kintūddiṣṭēna kiṃcidvidhīyata iti kathamidamavagamyata iti cēnna, prāptasyaiva upasaṃhārakatvōpapādakabhāṣyēṇaiva vidhēyāṃśa ēya niṣidhyatē ityabhiprāyasya vyaktatvāt ..

upacārapakṣanirākaraṇam

anyōäpyāha – ‘tvaṃ rājāsi’ ‘ahaṃ rājāsmi’ ityādivat tādadhīnyādyupacāravivakṣayā ‘tattvamasi’ ‘sōähamasmi (chā.u.4-11-1) ityādiṣu madhyamōttamasāmānādhikaraṇyānāṃ sāmaṃjasyamiti, tadapyupēkṣaṇīyamēva . lōkavēdayōścētanaparyantadēvamanuṣyādivyavahārabalēna jātiguṇaśabdavat mukhyavṛttyaiva nirvāhasambhavē upacārakalpanasya anyāyyatvāt ityalaṃ vistarēṇa ..

śaraṇāgatiparatayā mantravivaraṇam

yadyapyāgamē ācāryaiḥ imau śaraṇāgatimantrāviti rahasyatvāt kaṇṭharavēṇa nāäbhihitau ; tathāpi prājñānām arthasāmathryāt yathā tatparatvāvagamaḥ suśakaḥ ; tathā tayōḥ ślōkayōḥ arthavarṇanaṃ kṛtam . abhāṣi ca itthamantē –

“vyaktāvyaktē vājināṃ saṃhitāntē vyākhyāmitthaṃ vājivaktraprasādāt .

vaiśvāmitrō viśvamitraṃ vyatānīdvidvacchātraprītayē vēṃkaṭēśaḥ.. ( ī.u.vē.bhā.18) iti . atra “

“vicchātraprītayē” ityanēna svaprabandhasya nigūḍhābhiprāyatvaṃ vyaṃjitam .

ēvamācāryābhiprāyaviṣayatvāt śaraṇāgatiparatayā mantradvayaṃ vyākhyāsyatē . tatra “vāyuranilam” iti prathamaślōkaḥ pūrvakhaṇḍasamānārthakaḥ . “agnē naya” (ī.u.18) ityādiśca aparaślōka uttarakhaṇḍasamānārthakaḥ . tathā ca –

“prāpyasya brahamaṇō rūpa prāptuśca pratyagātmanaḥ ..

prāptyupāyaṃ phala prāptēstathā prāptivirōdhi ca” .. (hā.saṃ.)

ityēvamādyāḥ pūrvōttarakhaṇḍyōrviśōdhitā yē padārthāḥ, yē ca vākyārthabhēdāḥ, tē sarvēäpi iha pūrvōttarayōḥ ślōkayōḥ anusandhēyāḥ .

brahmaṇi ātmasamarpaṇam

“’sarvōpāyavinirmuktaṃ kṣētrajñaṃ brahmaṇi nyasēt .

ētajjñānaṃ ca yōgaśca śēṣōänyō granthavistara:” .. (da.smṛ.)

ityādiśāstraiḥ prōkṣaṇādibhiḥ samidādikamivapariśuddhasvarūpayāthātmyajñānēnasaṃskṛtyaiva ātmahavissamarpaṇīyamityuktatvāt ihāpi śarīrēndriyādibhyō viviktaṃ svātmānaṃ prathamaṃ yiśōdhya brahmaṇi samartya svādhikārānuguṇamarthayatē-vāyuḥ iti. “bhōktā bhōgyaṃ prēritāraṃ ca matvā” (śvē.u.1-12) ityādiśrutyantaraprasiddhaḥ cidacidīśvaratatvakramaḥ ihāpi dṛṣṭavyaḥ . vāyuḥ – vidyākarmānuguṇabhagavatsaṃkalpavaśēna tatra tatra gantṛtvādvāyuḥ anēna jīvasya aṇuparimāṇatvaṃ paramātmādhīnatvaṃ ca siddhayati . “yā gati-gandhanayōḥ” (pā.dhā.1050) iti dhātuḥ . nilayanarahitatvātkvacidapi vyavasthitatvābhāvāccaanilam . amṛtam – priyamāṇēpi dēhasantānē svayamamṛtaṃ svarūpatō dharmataśca avināśītyarthaḥ. “avināśī yā arēäyamātmā anucchittidharmā”  ( bṛ.u.6-5-14) “na vijñāturvijñātērviparilōpō vidyatē” (bṛ.u.6-3-30) na vidyatē ucchittiḥ vināśō yasya saḥ anucchittiḥ nitya ityarthaḥ . anucchittiḥ ‘dharmō yasyāsāvanucchittidharmēti punarbahuvrīhiḥ . nityajñānavān iti bhāvaḥ . āhuśca yāmunācāryāḥ –

“tadēvaṃ citsvabhāvasya puṃsaḥ svābhāvikī citiḥ .

tattatpadārthasaṃsargāttattadvittitvamaśnutē” .. (ā.si.23)

iti. idamamṛtatvam apahatapāpmatvādīnāmapyupalakṣaṇam, pariśuddhajīvaviṣayē prajāpativākyē, “ya ātmāpahatapāpmāvijarō vimṛtyurviśōkō vijighatsōäpipāsa kāmassatyasaṃkalpaḥ’ (chāṃ.u.8-7-1) iti pāṭhāt . “anilamamṛtam’ iti padadvayamapi pulliṃgatvēna vipariṇēyam, vāyuriti pulliṃgatvēnōpakṛmāt . .

atra “vāyuścāntarikṣaṃ ca ētadamṛtam” (bṛ.u.4-3-3) ityādikaṃ parāmṛśya vāyvādiśabdānāṃ bhūtadvitīyaviṣayakatvaṃ nāśaṃkanīyam; pūrvāparābhyām asaṃgatē, nāpi viśiṣṭavṛttyā vāyugataparamātmaviṣayatvam āśaṃkinīyam ; naśvarasya dēhasya anantaravacanēna tadyāvṛttapratyagātmaparatvasyaiva nyāyyatvāt. “kṣaraṃ pradhānamamṛtākṣaraṃ haraḥ kṣarātmānāviśatē dēva ēkaḥ” (śvē.u.1-10) . syabhōgyatayā pradhānaṃ haratīti haraḥ jīva ityarthaḥ . “kṣaraṃ tvavidyā hyamṛtaṃ tu vidyā vidyāvidyē īśatē yastu sōänyaḥ” (śvē.u.5-1) iti “śvētāśvatarīyē bhōgyabhōktṛniyantṛṛṇāṃ vivēcanē amṛtaśabdēna pratyagātmanōäbhisandhānadarśanācca atrāpi amṛtaśabdō jīvātmapara ityēva yuktam ..

ēvaṃ pratyagātmasvarūpasya “na jāyatē mriyatē vā vipaścit” (ka.u.2-18) ityādiprasiddham amṛtatvamabhidhāya kṣētrasya śarīrasya mṛtatvam avaśyambhāvītyāha – athēdaṃ bhasmāntaṃ śarīram iti . prakṛtādarthādarthāntaravivakṣayātrāthaśabdaḥ, jīyātmōtkumaṇānantaryārthakō vā; yadvā kātsnyaparaḥ . smaryatē ca –

“brahmādiṣu pralīnēṣu naṣṭē sthāvarajaṃgamē .

ēkastiṣṭhati viśvātmā sa tu nārāyaṇōävyayaḥ”.. ( ma.bhā.sabhā.)

iti . bhasmaśabdō dāhākhyasaṃskāraparaḥ . sa khananādērapi upalakṣakaḥ . athavā “kalēbaraṃ viṭkimibhasmasaṃjñitam” ityanyatra prasidbhakrimyantatvādērūpalakṣakō bhasmāntaśabdaḥ. tyāgē kṛtē kuvyādabhakṣitaṃ śarīraṃ viṭsaṃjñitaṃ bhavati  khananē kimisaṃjñitam, dāhē bhasmasaṃjñitamiti bhāvaḥ .

śarīrasya bhasmāntōpadēśē prayōjanam

nanu kēṣuciccharīrēṇa, pratyakṣa ēva vināśō dṛṣṭaḥ : avinaṣṭēṣvapi anyēṣu . anumānāt vināśitvaṃ suniścitam . anyathā śatranprati śastrādikaṃ na prayujyēta .. svayamapi śatruprayuktaśastraśarādikaṃ na nivārayēta . ēvaṃ sampratipannasya bhasmāntatārda: ihupadēśē kiṃ prayōjanam iti cēt – ucyatē, ātmaśarīrayōḥ amṛtatva mṛtatvarūpaviruddhadharmapradarśanēna bhēdasamarthanaṃ tāvat ēkaṃ prayōjanam; apathya pathyaparihārarasāyanasēyādibhiḥ kiṃ nityatvaṃ sambhavēditi sandēhāpākaraṇaṃ dvitīyam . svajadēhēäpi vairāgyajananaṃ tṛtīyam ; vināśahētō sati avaśyaṃ naśyatītivat. bhagavadupāsanādibhirantavināśasyāpi sambhāvanādyōtanaṃ caturtham, śīghraṃ mōkṣōpāyē pravartitavyam iti tvarāsaṃjananaṃ paṃcamam . ēvam uktānyanuktāni ca prayōjanāntarāṇi gītādvitīyādhyāyatātparyacandrikāyāṃ dṛṣṭavyāni ..

paramātmavācaka praṇava:

ēvaṃ “bhōktā bhōgyaṃ prēritāraṃ ca matvā” (śvē.u.1-12) iti kramēṇa cidacidvivēkamuktvā prēritāraṃ prākṛtaṃ mahāpuruṣaṃ praṇavēna upādattē – ōm iti . yathā āmanantyātharvaṇāḥ “yaḥ punarētaṃ trimātrēṇōmityanēnaivākṣarēṇa paramapuruṣamabhidhyāyīta” (pra.u.5-5) iti . uktaṃ ca yōgānuśāsanē “klēśakarmavipākāśayairaparāmṛṣṭaḥ puruṣaviśēṣa īśvaraḥ sarvēṣāmapi guruḥ kālē nānavacchēdāt” (pā.yō.sū.1-24) “tasya vācakaḥ praṇava:” ( pā.yō.sū.1-27) iti . āha ca sarvajñaḥ “ōmityēva sadā viprāḥ . paṭhadhvaṃ dhyāta kēśavam” (harivaṃ.vi.133-10) iti .svayaṃcāgāyat “ōmityēkākṣaraṃ brahma vyāharanmāmanusmaran” (bha.gī.8-13) iti . ēvaṃ sarvatra dṛṣṭavyam ..

athavā śarīramātmānaṃ ca vivicya viviktamātmānam akāravācyē paramapuruṣē samarpayati – ōm iti . praṇavasya ātmasamarpaṇaparatvam “ōmityātmānaṃ yuṃjīta” (tai.nā.78)

“praṇavō dhanuśśarō hyātmā brahma tallakṣyamucyatē.

apramattēna vēddhavyaṃ  śarabattanmayō bhavēt” .. ( mu.u.2-2-4)

bhagavadanugrahaprārthanā

atha kraturūpiṇaṃ bhagavantaṃ jñānayajñagōcaram abhimukhīkurvastadanugrahaṃ yācatē-kutō  smara. kratō – jyōtiṣṭōmādikriyātmaka, yathāha “ahaṃ kraturahaṃ yajñaḥ” (bha.gī.9-18 iti . yajñaḥ paṃcamahāyajñā ityarthaḥ . athavā kratō – bhaktisvarūpa, “yathākuturasmillōkē puruṣōbhavati tathētaḥ prētyabhavati” (chāṃ.u.3-14-1) “sa kratuṃ kurvīta” (chā.u.3-14-1) “ēvakutuham” (agni.ra,10-6-1) ityādiṣu kratuśabdasya bhaktiyōgēäpi prayōgadarśanāt bhaktiyōgagōcarē bhagavati tacchabda upacārāt ityācāryāḥ . rakṣakasya bhaktiyōgasthānē nivēśanē katō. iti sambōdhanēna vivakṣitamiti bhāvaḥ . smara – sānugrahayā baddhaya viṣayīkuru, “snēhapūrṇēna manasā yat naḥ smarasi kēśava” (varā.ca.ślō) itivat . uktaṃ ca bhagavatā ‘sthitē manasi’ ityārabhya –

“tatastaṃ priyamāṇaṃ tu kāṣṭhapāṣāṇasannibham .

ahaṃ smarāmi madbhaktaṃ nayāmi parama gatim” .. (varā.ca.ślō) iti .

atra ‘smarāmi’ ‘nayāmi’ iti padadvayasya “kratō smara” “agnē naya” iti .. prārthanādvayāpēkṣayā prativacanatvāvagamadvārā varāhacaramaślōkadvayaṃ “vāyuranilamamṛtam” ityādimantradvayōpabṛhamaṇamiti bhāvaḥ . kṛtaṃ smara – matkṛtaṃ yatkiṃcidānukūlyamanusandhāya kṛtajñastvaṃ māṃ rakṣēti vā, ētāvadantaṃ tvatkṛtamānukūlyaṃ pratisandhāya tvamēva śēṣapūraṇaṃ kuru iti vā bhāvaḥ . smaranti hi “jāyamānaṃ hi puruṣam” (ma.bhā.śā.358) ityādi . tyarātiśayāt “kratō smara kṛtaṃ smara” ityāvṛttiḥ ..

agnē naya supathā rāyē asmānviśvāni dēva vayunāni vidvān .

yuyōdhyasmajjuhurāṇamēnō bhūyiṣṭhāṃ tē nama uktiṃ vidhēma .. 18 ..

punarapi agniśabdavācyaṃ bhagavantaṃ prati iṣṭaprāptim aniṣṭanivṛttiṃ ca prārthayatē – agnē naya iti .

bṛhadāraṇyakē ca saptamādhyāyē “yadā yai puruṣōäsmāllōkātprēti sa vāyum”(bṛ.u.7-10-1)  ityādinā arcirādikaṃ panthānam upadiśya paścāt adhyāyāvasānē hiraṇmayēna pātrēṇa” (bṛ.u.7-15-1) ityādyā ētē catvārō mantrāḥ kramēṇa paṭhitāḥ .

paramātmani aniṣṭhanivṛttipūrvakēṣṭaprāptiprārthanā

agnē -agniśarīraka, “yasyāgniśśarīram” (bṛ.u.5-7-9) iti antaryāmibrāhamaṇam.  yadvā “sākṣādapyavirōdhaṃ jaiminiḥ” (bra.sū.1-2-29) iti nyāyēna, agra nayatīti agniḥ ; agranayanādiguṇayukta naya – pravartayētyarthaḥ. supathā – śōbhanamārgēṇa  pratiṣēdhasparśarahitēna yājanādhyāpanādyupāyēna iti yāvat . rāyē – vidyārthaśarīrasaṃrakṣaṇatyadarcanānuguṇāya dhanāyētyartha:.

athavā

“ataskarakaragrāhyamarājakayaśaṃvadam..

adāyādavibhāgārha dhanamārjaya susthiram “ (yā.smṛ.2-40) ‘

“ananta bata mēṃ vittam” (ma.bhā.śāṃ.17-223) ityādiśūktam alaukikadhanam iha vivakṣitam . vidyāprakaraṇānuguṇyāt . ēka ēva mantra: prakaraṇādibhiḥ viśēṣitaḥ . tattadanuguṇamarthaṃ bōdhayatīti, samyaṅnyāyavida ityācāryāḥ . yadvā agnē naya prāpaya ityarthaḥ. supathā – arcirādipathēna, bṛhadāraṇyakapāṭhēärcirādipathasya buddhisthatvāt .

“arcirahasmitapakṣānudagayanābdau ca mārutārkēndūn .

api vaidyutavaruṇēndraprajāpatīnātivāhikānāhuḥ” (ta.sā.102)

ityabhiyuktasaṃgṛhītēna mārgēṇa iti bhāvaḥ . arcirādimārgavivakṣāpi ācāryābhiprētaiva..

brahmaṇō dhanatvasamarthanam

rāyē – ityatra brahmaṇaḥ prāpyatvōpavarṇanāt brahmaiva hi susthiram anantam alaukikaṃ ca dhanam . ata ēva tatra tatra ēvamucyatē “dhanaṃ madīyaṃ tava pādapaṃkajam” (stō.ra.30) “yō nityamacyutapadāmbujayugmarukmavyāmōhataḥ” (dē.sta.1) “yadaṃjanābhaṃ nirapāyamasti mē dhanaṃjayasyandanabhūṣaṇaṃ dhanam” (dē.pa.4)

“na mē pitrārjitaṃ dṛvyaṃ na mayā kiṃcidārjitam .

asti mēṃ hastiśailāgrē vastu paitāmahaṃ dhanam”.. (dē.pa.6) iti .

atra caivaṃ śāṃkaraṃ  vyākhyānam – “supathā śōbhanamārgēṇa, supathēti viśēṣaṇaṃ dakṣiṇamārganivṛtyarthaṃ ; viṣaṇṇōähaṃ dakṣiṇēna mārgēṇa gatāgatalakṣaṇēna ; atō yācē tvāṃ punaḥpunargamanāgamanavarjitēna śōbhanēna pathā nayēti” iti ..

rāyē – hiraṇyanidhisarūpāya puruṣāya ; tvatprāptayē iti bhāvaḥ . asmānaananyaprayōjanānananyagatīścētyarthaḥ . na kēvalaṃ mām, apitvanubandhijanānapīti bahuvacanasyābhiprāyaḥ . dēva asmadapēkṣitapradānānuguṇavicitrajagatsṛṣṭisthitisaṃhārāntaḥ vēdāṃścapravēśaniyamanasvāśritavimōcanādirūpavilakṣaṇakrīḍāyukta.

yō brahmāṇaṃ vidadhāti pūrvaṃ yō vai vēdāṃśca prahiṇōti tasmai .

taṃ ha dēvamātmabuddhiprasādaṃ mumukṣurvai śaraṇamahaṃ prapadyē .. (śvē.u.6-18)

iti mantrēpi dēvaśabdasvaivamēvābhiprāyaḥ . vayunaśabdō jñānavācī, “māyā vayunaṃ jñānam” (nighaṇṭu 3-9) iti naighaṇṭukōktēḥ . atra tu lakṣaṇayā jñātavyōpāyaparaḥ . viśvāni vayunāni sarvānapi tattadadhikārānuguṇacaturvidhapuruṣārthōpāyānyayādvidvān tvamaviduṣōäsmānnētumarhasīti bhāvaḥ. “yō vai vēdāṃśca prahiṇōti tasmai” (śvē.u.9-18) iti mantrapadānāmapyētadēya hṛdayam .|

“mumukṣurvai śaraṇamahaṃ prapadyē” (śyē.u.9-18) iti mantragatamumukṣupadaṃ vivṛṇvannāha – yuyōdhyasmajjuhurāṇamēḥ iti . “ hṛ kauṭilyē” (pā.dhā.211) . juhurāṇam – kuṭilaṃ bandhanātmakamityarthaḥ . yadvā – acintyaprakārakauṭilyatayā bādhamānam iti bhāvaḥ .. anēna viśēṣaṇēna atitīvraḥ śōkavēgō dyōtyatē . ēnaḥ – akṛtyakaraṇakṛtyākaraṇādirūpaṃ tyadupāsanōtpattipratibandhakam ityarthaḥ. tvatprāptiprativandhakam iti vā . ēnaḥityēkavacana jātyabhiprāyakam . vastutastu “kiyadidaṃ” nivartyamēnaḥ ? nivartakānurūpa hi na bhavati ;nahi sarvaśaktēstava idamanurūpa lakṣyam ; nāpi namauktē: ; bhūyasī hi sā iti ēkavacanasyābhiprāyaḥ. asmat – asmattaḥ, yuyōdhi – pṛthakkuru, vināśayēti bhāvaḥ ..

yadvā – pṛthakkuru, ētāvadēva yācē tvāṃ, juhurāṇam ēnaḥ asmattaḥ prathamaṃ viyōjaya iti, tatpaścāt yathāmanōrathaṃ vināśayasi cēdvināśaya, puruṣāntarē saṃkrāmaya, nāsti tatrāsmākaṃ nirbandha iti bhāvaḥ ..

iṣṭasādhanatayā śaraṇāgatividhānam

bhūyiṣṭhām – ananyagatitvādiguṇairāvṛttitaśca bhūyasī, namaukti, tē ayāptasamastakāmatayā nirupādhikasarvasvāmitayā ca namauktyanyanirapēkṣāya tē, vidhēma – vidadhmahē, vyatyayō bahulamanuśiṣṭaḥ . nama uktēranuvṛttiṃ vā nāthaṃ prati nāthatē . “nama ityēya vādinaḥ” (ma.bhā.śāṃ.337-40) iti hi muktānāmapi lakṣaṇaṃ mōkṣadharmē śrutam . mānasa-kāyikayōrnamasōrabhāvēäpi namaśśabdamātrēṇa tvaṃ prasannō bhavitumarhasītyuktiśabdābhiprāyaḥ.

hē agnē dēya viśvāni vayunāni vidvān tvaṃ juhurāṇamēnōäsmattō yuyōdhi, supathāäsmān rāyē naya, vayaṃ tē bhūyiṣṭhāṃ namauktiṃ vidhēma ityanvayaḥ .  nityāṃjalipuṭā hṛṣṭā namauktiṃ vidhēma ityarthaḥ . nama ityēvayādinō bhayāmēti bhāvaḥ..

aṣṭādaśamantrapratipādyasārāṃśa:

ēyamasminnanuvākē āditō mantrāṣṭakasya cētanācētanarūpamaparatattyadvayaṃ karmayōgajñānayōgarūpa vyavahitōpāyadvayaṃ ca pradhānapratipādyam ; uparitanāṣṭakasya tu paratatyaparamapuruṣaviṣayakaṃ bhaktiyōgarūpaṃ sākṣātsādhanam ; avaśiṣṭamantradyasya saryaphalasādhanaṃ prapadanaṃ pradhānapratipādyam .

gītāyāḥ ṣaṭkatrayānurōdhēna mantrāṇāṃ vibhāgaḥ

ēvaṃ ca śrībhagavadgītādhyāyēṣu prathamaṣaṭkaṃ prathamāṣṭakasyōpabṛmhaṇam, dvitīyaṣaṭkaṃ dvitīyāṣṭakasya, tṛtīyaṣaṭkamavaśiṣṭamantradvikisyōpabṛmhaṇam . tṛtīyaṣṛkaṃ hi prathamamadhyamaṣaṭkābhyām uktatatvōpāyapuruṣārthaviśadīkaraṇapūrvakaṃ śaraṇāgatividhipradhānam . tatra caramaślōkasya pūrvārdhaṃ “vāyuranilamamṛtam” (ī.u.17) iti mantrōktānuṣṭhānavidhāyakam . uttarārdhantu “yuyōdhyasmajjuhurāṇamēna:” (ī.u.18) iti . prārthayamānānāṃ  prārthanāpūraṇasaṃkalpapūrvakaṃ śōkapratikṣēpakamiti caramaślōkōäpyasya mantradavikasyōpabṛmhaṇamēvēti siddham .
